14th Annual Polar Bear Plunge is Rapidly Approaching

The 14th Annual Polar Bear Plunge at Greenbrier State Park on January 14th is rapidly approaching.  Participants and donations continue to grow and excitement is rising.

The event, sponsored by VerStandig Broadcasting, is already seeing a record-breaking number of participants.

“We currently have over 170 pre-registered participants and have plenty of room for more,” said HSWC Corporate Partnership and Events Coordinator Nikki Houser.  “This has become a winter tradition for many people in our community. It is a radically fun way for animal lovers to help a great cause and we can’t thank them enough for the support.”

The 14th Annual Polar Bear Plunge will take place on Saturday, January 14th at Greenbrier State Park at noon.  The plunge will include the participation of local celebrities. VerStandig Broadcasting has several radio personalities participating, including Bobcat and Nasty Bob from 101.5 Bob Rocks!, AJ Silver from 104.7 WAYZ, and Crash from 92.1 The Hits. Additional celebrity plungers include WHAG Anchors Nick Munson and Michella Drapac, Editor-in-Chief of Hagerstown Magazine Matt Makowski, County Commissioner Jeff Cline, Ranger Mike Burditt of Greenbrier State Park, Hagerstown City Councilwoman Emily Keller and HSWC Board Member Aaron Peteranecz.

Awards will be given for the Most Money Raised, Best Costume, Best Themed Team Costume, and Largest Team of Participants.

Anyone interested in participating in the event can pre-register online at or at the event. The registration fee is $25 before the event and $30 at the event.  Anyone interested in supporting the event can sponsor any participant’s plunge on the registration site as well.  All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.
