15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge is Rapidly Approaching

The Humane Society of Washington County’s 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge at Greenbrier State Park is rapidly approaching.  Participants and donations continue to grow and excitement is rising for the January 13th event.

The year’s top event sponsors are VerStandig Broadcasting and Sharrett Subaru.

“We are incredibly grateful for the community’s continued support for this fun event,” said Development Director Colin Berry.  “Participating in our Polar Bear Plunge is a winter tradition for many people, and we’re thrilled to offer a fun, bold way for animal lovers to support our mission year after year!”

The 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge will take place on Saturday, January 13th at Greenbrier State Park.  Registration and check-in begins at 10:30, and the plunge is at noon. Costume judging will be held onsite from 10:30 to 11:45 am.

Radio personalities from 104.7 WAYZ, AJ Silver and Krystle, are taking the plunge alongside WDVM Meteorologist David Dickson and Reporter Sarah Gisriel, HSWC President/CEO Kim Intino, and 2017 Miss Maryland Katie Masek.

Awards will be given for the Most Money Raised, Best Individual Costume, Best Team Costume, and Largest Team of Participants.

Anyone interested in participating in the event can pre-register online at or at the event. The registration fee is $25 prior to the event and $30 at the event.  Anyone interested in supporting HSWC’s largest fundraiser of the year can sponsor any participant’s plunge on the registration site as well. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

Participants must be registered by January 4th to be guaranteed a free Polar Bear Plunge long-sleeved shirt.
