HSWC Gears Up for 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge

The Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) will be holding the 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge at Greenbrier State Park on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Participants will plunge into the frigid waters of Greenbrier Lake at noon sharp.

“We’re thrilled to have reached our 15th plunge and hope this will be our biggest year yet,” said Colin Berry, Development Director.  “We hope the community will join us for this unique, memorable event that makes a huge impact for the animals in our shelter.”

Last year the event netted more than $39,000 making it the biggest fundraiser of the year for the HSWC.

Interested participants can register online for the 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge by going to hswcmd.org and creating a personal fundraising page. The first 125 “polar bears” to register will receive a drawstring bag with the new Polar Bear Plunge logo. All pre-registered participants by January 4th will receive a long-sleeved custom T-shirt. Additional incentives will be awarded to plungers reaching various levels of fundraising tiers. Anyone who would like to sponsor a participant can go to hswcmd.org to make a donation.

There will be prizes awarded for the largest team, the most money raised, and the best costume for an individual and a group.
