Kelly Tracey Named as Distinguished Volunteer

The Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) is pleased to announce that shelter board member, Kelly Tracey, was named HSWC’s Distinguished Volunteer in celebration of the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (AFP) National Philanthropy Day.

Each year, AFP promotes National Philanthropy Day by honoring fundraising volunteers across the country who have made extraordinary efforts on behalf of a non-profit organization.  AFP Western Maryland, the local chapter to which HSWC belongs, holds an annual luncheon to recognize and celebrate the passion and commitment of these dedicated volunteers, as nominated by their local non-profits. Unfortunately, this year’s scheduled luncheon was cancelled due to weather, so HSWC presented the award to Kelly at the shelter.

“Kelly is wholeheartedly committed to HSWC’s mission to help animals in Washington County,” said HSWC’s Development Director, Colin Berry. “She has a deep understanding of the work we do and never hesitates to help when asked. In fact, Kelly not only organized the largest team to plunge in last week’s Polar Bear fundraiser, but her team was recognized for raising the most money.  We are incredibly fortunate to have her as a fundraising volunteer.”

To nominate a volunteer for the award, non-profits were required to submit a nomination of 60 words or less. Nominations had to start with a single word to describe the nominee and include information on their fundraising activities, those who have benefitted, and personal traits that contribute to their success.  Following is HSWC’s submission describing Kelly:

“Tenacious.  A teacher, staff advocate, passionate friend of animals, committed Board member, and a fearless fundraiser:  Kelly Tracey is the quintessential volunteer every organization dreams of having.  Bold and unafraid of setting stretch goals, Kelly persists until she succeeds. She has introduced dozens of individual and corporate supporters to HSWC and pushes our organization and staff to grow and excel.”
