Stray Animals in the Shelter
The animals in this section are unclaimed strays who are currently being held at the Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC). Pursuant to HSWC’s Animal Control Contract, stray animals must be held at HSWC for 3 days. If after 3 days the animal remains unclaimed by their rightful owner, HSWC assumes legal ownership of the animal. The animal will then be evaluated and placed as deemed appropriate.
If you believe that an animal pictured belongs to you, please call 301-733-2060 as soon as possible. HSWC is not legally bound to return an animal outside of the 3-day stray holding period.
To see animals that have been found but are being kept in the finder's home for a stray period of 30 days, please see the next section.
